Learn Chinese Online – 10 Tips

Learning Chinese via Online lessons is a great way to learn a new language. Online lessons save time, you don’t have to travel anywhere to get started. Especially self-paced lessons are excellent for those with busy or varying schedules, study when and where you want!

How to make the best of learning Chinese online then?

1 Know your goal

2 Schedule your lessons in your own calendar

Study when you want right? Just make sure that it doesn’t turn into “study never”. A good habit is to put your study time in your calendar, for example on your iPhone. Decide how many hours you want to study weekly and schedule it, for example 15-30 minutes per day.

3 Prepare physical materials too

Having everything online is great, but some materials you want to make sure you can print out too. Workbook for example or exercises are often best done pen in paper.

4 Ask questions

When you buy an online Chinese course, make sure you are able to ask questions from teacher and fellow students. Self study can get you a long way, but if you can contact a teacher during your online course, that is going to boost your learning a lot!

5 Track your progress

Sometimes it’s easy to lose motivation, especially when your teacher isn’t in the same room with you. Try creating your own track chart, print it out and stick it to your firdge door. Like losing weight or picking up a new habit, learning Chinese in an effective way requires showing up regularly.

6 Avoid long breaks

Things happen, hell there is a full blown pandemic on our front doors right now, but by keeping up with your studies you can keep some normalcy in your life as well. And reaching those goals, ticking your boxes, will boost your mental health too, making you feel successful. So take a short breather if you need to, but make sure to get back in the saddle soon.

7 Keep it fun

Choose a course that fits your needs and that you enjoy doing. Choose Chinese lessons that you want to do daily, even if it’s just 10-15 minutes per day. Make any course more fun by taking it with your friend, sometimes a little friendly fun competition can make the deal!

8 Celebrate your successess

Regularly take time to look back and celebrate how much you have improved! Your first 10 words, first conversation, first HSK test, no matter the achievement is small or big, take time to give your self a little prize!

9 Keep it easy to access

Put your Chinese online course website as your default page in your browser, have that flashcard app on the first spot on your mobile phone. Leave your study materials on your desk where you can see them daily. Make it super easy for your self to study.

10 Show off your skills

Don’t be shy to show of your new or improved Chinese skills! You are learning the language most likely to communicate with locals, go ahead and use your language as much as you can. Take some videos of your self speaking Chinese and send to your social media. Your WeChat friends will definitely be there to support you!
